Wheel Loader WL20e: Electric, practical, emission-free

The WL20e is the first exclusively electric-powered wheel loader by Wacker Neuson. Its performance characteristics correspond to those of a conventional diesel-powered machine. The installed 48-volt lithium-ion battery is optionally available in three power levels, so that running and charging times can be optimally matched to the work requirements. The WL20e works fully emissions-free on site and with significantly lower noise pollution. For the end user, this means greater flexibility in application, environmental protection and significant savings on operating costs.

Powerful lithium-ion battery

  • Depending on the application and purpose, the appropriate battery size can be selected. A total of three maintenance-free lithium-ion batteries are available: Standard is 14.1 kWh, optionally available are 18.7 kWh or 23.4 kWh.
  • A 3 kW onboard charger is installed as standard. Optionally, a second 3 kW onboard charger can be selected to increase the charging power to a total of 6 kW, which is suitable for the medium and large battery to achieve a fast charging time.
  • The lithium-ion battery comes with a standard warranty of 36 months or 900 charging cycles (minimum 80% remaining battery capacity).

Easy charging options

  • The charging cover can be accessed easily from the outside on the machine. Behind it you will find the socket, the activation switch, and the charge display.
  • The charging cable (Type 2 plug on the machine, familiar from the automotive industry), including the control box, is available with a number of different plugs: 230 V / 10 A Schuko, 230 V / 16 A CEE (blue, 3-pole), 400 V / 16 A CEE (red, three-phase AC current, 5-pole), 400 V / 16 A (Type 2 plug wall box, IEC 62196), and other adapter plugs.
  • The flexible, selectable charging plugs enable fast and coordinated charging of the selected battery size. In combination with the installed on-board charger, both efficient and safe charging processes are guaranteed.

Comfortable cab

  • The cabin of the WL20e comfortably enables year-round use of the machine, e.g. also in cold seasons during winter maintenance. It has been optimized to meet the needs of the operator, offers many new features, enables safe and comfortable working and provides sufficient space for the operator despite its compact design.
  • The well thought-out heating concept covers all requirements: Heating standard, comfort heating with even more power, roof panel heating and seat heating. This ensures that the driver can work at a comfortable interior temperature even in cold outside temperatures. In summer, good ventilation is ensured even without air conditioning: Door can be locked on right and left for gap ventilation, door can be opened 180° on right and left and rear window can be opened.
  • The low-slung windows and the shortened rear of the machine provide the best all-round visibility, the electrically heated front and rear windows ensure optimum visibility in all weather conditions, and the emergency stop switch under the joystick offers high safety.

EPS folding overhead guard (Easy Protection System)

  • Compact wheel loaders can be equipped with the fold-down operator's canopy EPS (Easy Protection System). This complies with the current European Machinery Directive according to ROPS and FOPS protection. With a few hand movements, the EPS can be prepared manually for a low clearance height.
  • EPS increases the flexibility of the machine, as it can even pass through low passages. Also, the application areas of the machine are expanded. In other cases where several machines might have to be used, just one machine can get the work done. At the same time, the operator’s safety remains guaranteed.

Low operating costs

  • Operating costs over the life of the machine are reduced by approximately 41% for an electrically-powered machine compared to a diesel-powered machine due to lower energy and maintenance costs.
  • The somewhat higher investment costs for an all-electric machine are amortized over an average machine service life after a certain period of time, depending on usage behavior and application area. The all-electric drive is always the more cost-effective alternative in the long run.

Performance when and where it's needed

  • Two separate electric motors are inserted into the machine: One for the drive system, and one for he work hydraulics drive. As a result, the energy consumption is minimized, because it is only utilized when it is really needed.
  • The electric motor for the drive system also enables the machine to start up dynamically and powerfully. This can be felt during every acceleration process and thus increases the operator's comfort.

Optimum tires

  • The correct tires for a wheel loader play an important role in the actual application. If the tires are optimally matched to the surface and area of use, the driver can work with the machine without any problems.
  • Choosing the right tires offers maximum traction and minimum wear, which saves money as the tires do not have to be changed frequently.
  • To achieve optimal performance on any subbase, seven treads are available for selection depending on model: EM tread, AS tread, SureTrax tread, RP tread, MPT tread, multi-use tread and Bibload tread. This ensures the maximum flexibility of the machine ex work.

Selectable operator's cab

  • Depending on the machine, different operator's cabs are available: fixed operator's canopy, fold-down operator's canopy EPS, hydraulically lowerable EPS Plus and different cab versions. Selecting the right operator's cab allows maximum flexibility for a great variety of applications and framework conditions.

Transport on car trailer

  • Save time and transport costs: Thanks to the compact dimensions and low weight, the machines can be transported easily by car trailer.

Electric parking brake

  • The electric parking brake is applied automatically when the machine is stationary, the direction of travel is set to neutral or the operator leaves the seat. The parking brake is released automatically when the machine is restarted using the accelerator pedal. This provides increased safety and comfort for the operator and their working environment. The machine can therefore be operated very efficiently thanks to the electric parking brake.
  • The electric parking brake can also be activated or deactivated manually by pressing a switch. The operator is always in control and can work with the machine according to his own needs and preferences.
  • The electric parking brake offers both a comfortable auto-hold function as well as a hill-hold function. This prevents the machine from rolling away and as a result increases safety when working. Additionally, energy is recovered using the braking system via the so-called Energy Recuperation, which also lengthens the machine’s running time.

Extensive lighting package

  • The lighting can be adjusted to different requirements: LED worklight (standard), LED lighting according to StVZO, LED worklight Performance (2000 lumens), rotating beacon (LED, optionally magnetic) and Blue Saftey Light rear. This enables individually adapted work with the machine even in the dark.
  • Good illumination of the work area increases work safety and allows the operator to concentrate on working with the machine for longer periods of time.

Battery Management System (BMS)

  • The lithium-ion battery is optimally monitored by the implemented electronics system.
  • The BMS also enables significantly increased charging currents, short-term provision of power peaks and permanent monitoring of the temperature. In addition, the battery is always preheated to the optimum operating temperature.
  • The Battery Management System therefore increases efficiency and safety of the battery, and excludes the possibility of a deep discharge.

Easy maintenance

  • The engine hood can be opened upwards allowing the removal of the operator's seat and diverse access covers in just a few steps. This enables easy access to the hydraulics control block, the pumps, the battery, and the electric motors. With this, easy and time-saving maintenance of the machine is guaranteed.
  • A great benefit of an electrically operated machine is that clearly less maintenance arises overall than for a machine with a diesel engine.

Always the Right Running Time

  • Depending on the size of the battery, it is possible to achieve a running time with uninterrupted operation of up to 7.3 hr. The running times of the battery are therefore strongly dependent on the respective application conditions, the task, and the driving style. This may also mean that a significantly longer running time can be achieved. However, the running time may also be undercut in extreme cases.

  • The oil volume of the 3rd control circuit can be variably adjusted. This enables the adaptation of the machine to the requirements of hydraulic attachments with rotary consumers.
  • The oil volume adjustment guarantees that working with the machine and attachment is both comfortable and efficient.

Flexible attachment use

  • The machine can also be used in stationary operation. In this case, the machine is stationary and the working hydraulics of the 3. control circuit is used to drive an attachment such as a log splitter. This extends the range of applications for the machine.
  • For professional operation of rear attachments, the machine can be optionally equipped with a multifunctional rear attachment plate. This allows rear-mounted equipment such as a salt spreader to be operated optimally during winter maintenance.

Rear hydraulic connections

  • The machine can be equipped with rear hydraulic connections (single or double-acting). This increases the machine's range of applications because rear hydraulic attachments or tipper trailers can also be operated.
  • The various rear hydraulic options expand the machine's range of applications and offer more flexibility in use. One machine can be used multifunctionally for different activities, no additional vehicles or machines are needed.

  • Because of the articulated pendulum joint with 12° oscillating angle, all four wheels retain excellent traction, even on uneven ground conditions and the operator maintains optimal control. This increases the productivity of the entire machine system.
  • The large articulation and pendulum angle ensures high traction on the ground, making the machine easy to maneuver. As a result, there is no collision between the front and rear sections of the machine in confined conditions.
  • And because the front and rear carriages can oscillate independently of each other, the operator can sensitively react to any unevenness. This increases operator comfort and enables fatigue-free work over longer periods.

  • Thanks to the hydraulic quickhitch system, attachments can be readily exchanged. In this way, your machine is immediately ready for use again. This increases productivity and profitability.
  • The hydraulic quick-change system for attachments is standard on all Wacker Neuson wheel loaders.
  • The good view of the coupling points makes changing attachments very easy. Also, changing over is particularly safe with 2-hand operation when decoupling.

All Wacker Neuson wheel loaders can be operated in a very similar or even identical way. This gives the operator the advantage of quickly finding his way around on different Wacker Neuson wheel loaders and being able to work productively.
  • The Wacker Neuson operating philosophy allows the operator to easily understand the machine, which enables him to work safely and productively.
